Stop Motion LEGO Technic Mountain Mayhem. Take One. Action!

LEGO Technic heli pilotI’ve always thought stop motion movies were cool, ever since seeing the California Raisins back in the 80’s.  That’s when I was around 6… Fast forward 25 or so years and here I am playing with LEGOs and giving stop motion a shot.  This is my first attempt at making a stop motion cartoon.  It took a few hours and 545 shots.

Stop motion studio shoot

Stop motion studio shoot on my down comforter, canon 60d and a remote trigger.

And here is the short clip it all created.  You may have to watch it a few times, as there are times where multiple little things are happening with each of the characters.  It made me laugh.  I hope you like it.  (after watching this a few times, I noticed some export errors… glitches that shouldn’t be there, that happened when I was exporting the project as an avi file… I will have to try again, and I will update)

As always, please share with friends, and give me a like or tweet, or whatever.  Don’t forget to take a look at the ads if anything catches your attention, it helps support the site and maybe more little battles?

This is really neat, Darren. I particularly like the guy twirling on the helicopter rotor blades near the beginning. Now you’ll have to work on adding sound.

I love the pictures you take for this blog. Any recomendations for a good pocket camera with a view finder? Something to take when dslr is inconvenient. Thanks

Thanks Penny! I do need sound, this was just sort of my first one and will need to work on some refinements for sure. DSLR’s can be a bit bulky at times. Depending on your preference of DSLR, either Canon or Nikon, I would look at the point and shoots that either of them make. Resolutions and features are way up there these days, they will work similar to the bigger brother offerings, and some will shoot in RAW if that is something you are into. Thank you very much for stopping by and leaving a comment! DJ
